My name is Kylie Chisholm. I am a senior at Assumption College and the Valley Girl Magazine president. As a new club on campus, I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and this club to help our readers understand our goals as a publication on campus.
Being an English Writing and Mass Communications major here at Assumption, I am passionate about all things writing and media. I consider it an outlet. I’ve also felt fortunate enough to find my voice at Assumption; through the last three years I’ve learned so much about myself and have grown into a woman who knows what she wants and will do anything to get there. I don’t think I am the only one that feels that way.
College is such a crucial period for growth in our lives, and I feel it is important to have a safe space to write about your struggles, passions, interests, and everything in between. I felt there was a gap in the publications being offered on campus – there wasn’t a lifestyle magazine especially geared towards women (who do make up the majority of our student body).
Valley Girl Magazine gives all students, men and women, an outlet to talk about lifestyle and women’s issues and topics on campus. Ranging from fashion to health and wellness to current events, the magazine hopes to allow students to write about everything they encounter as an Assumption student on a day to day basis. I want writing to be as effective of an outlet for everyone as it is for me.
I appreciate you checking out our website, and I hope you continue to stick around either as a reader or a contributor.
xoxo – Kylie
