Book Review: The Cabin

And we are back with another book review! For this review I wanted to talk about a book from one of my favorite authors that I recently discovered. This author is Natasha Preston, and the book I will be talking about is called The Cabin. This author is from England and all of her books are young adult murder mystery, which has become my new favorite genre of novels. I have read many of her books in the past but I read this book over winter break and it took me three days to read the whole thing. I could not put it down!

The Cabin is about a group of high school seniors who go to a cabin for a weekend holiday and the first night they get there, two of their friends are murdered. Throughout the rest of the book, all of the other kids are under investigation to try and figure out who actually killed these two people. Every chapter makes you think that a new person has killed them and it keeps you guessing throughout the entire story. When you find out who actually did it though everything ties together. One thing that this author does that always made me go back to read more of her stories is that every single book ends with a cliffhanger. And she does not write sequels. So every one of her books makes the reader even more suspicious of what could possibly happen next. Now I know that some people may not like this, having something end in a cliffhanger could be very aggravating for some readers and make you want to read a sequel. But I think that these cliffhangers bring flair and spice to her books and make me want to read more of her work. She wants her readers to be left hanging so that they can become even more invested in the story.

When looking at this book from a critical perspective I couldn’t see anything wrong with it. I am biased when it comes to this author’s work and believe that she really knows how to keep people on the edge of their seats. All of her stories are very different and captivate her audience. She makes sure that when she is writing her books she is keeping everyone captivated from the beginning all the way to the end. She has written 5 other books that are all different but within the same genre. If you are into young adult murder mystery books, you will definetly like this author and her books.
